Today wasn't my day though. Haven't been out on any actual hunt but was at the tutorial bird...and I just seem to suck today. Still tryna figure out the lead. I'm in a situation where I can now get my gun in position but seem to be firing either a tad too early or too late. I mean I'm still doing better than previous, but that 14 seems like either a fluke or today just isn't my day.

This is my rifle...it's a Mauser...it mauses.

My main issue is the frame rate. Can really drop sometimes especially when aiming near the ground.

Okay so one thing, I've had it happen a few times whereby I've hit the bird well within optimum range which I find tends to be about 20-40m distance. I recently hit the tutorial bird at 35m and I'm pretty sure I had a good angle on 'em. I mean perfect surface area exposure here and somehow it didn't manage the game's pellet count requirement for kill. What is the shotgun grouping like with birdshot? I tried the paper targets at logger's point but the hits don't show up on it for me. Can't help but feel it's not just my aim. I know perfect tail on shots give trouble with angle cos not much surface area to hit. But 35m, right there in front of me.

Also on a separate note, I tried a new setup recently. Managed to get an old Dell 380 precision using a pentium D and a GTX960 and the frame rate was actually pretty good. But on some occasions, the pheasants still seemed to be causing the weird frame and sound glitch that happens on my laptop. Now it could just be some other issue as my disk usage had soared in bursts every now and then but it does seem to be most apparent when a flock of pheasants turn up. Is there still no solution to the weird sound problem that those birds often cause me? Almost always with a flock once spooked and in render range. Doesn't go till out of range or target killed. Since I'm on the subject of the new setup with what I got lying around I have to ask about COTW. I seem to have a combination issue. My laptop has a processor within supposed requirements...just not a video card. But my Dell 380 has the video card, just not the processor...in theory. 'can I run it' claims my laptop shouldn't run classic yet it does at max quality at reasonably good frame rate and I've seen the Pentium D being used on MW remastered at 25 fps. Anyone know if COTW has a cat in hell's chance of running? I don't wanna spend 20 quid on a game that won't run. I am looking for a modern machine but they are rather expensive and gaming is merely a hobby not a career for me. Hope this question isn't too unrelated for this post but I may as well ask since I'm talking about the new setup and it's effects on my pheasant prowess.

If the frame rate is bad I wonder if using the shotgun red dot may help? I'm unsure if it de-renders what you arent looking at but its a thought maybe?

A pentium D? If that is a dual core then it would probably stutter a lot in COTW. The gtx 960 is a decent GPU for these games but that CPU is weak... if you can, look for an optiplex with a i5-2500 or newer. Paired with a gtx 960 it should run cotw and classic on 1080p med-high. Check your local market for them you should be able to find some for 100 usd or lower. One thing to keep in mind is the space for GPU (mainly length).

first up, thankyou for the tech heads up as that confirms reddit's findings. I'll look into that. Now I have seemed to have better luck with the 12 gauge pump action as the gun has much nicer sights than the 10 gauge. gotta be honest, 10 gauge has the tiniest little bead to try and aim with compared to the 12 gauge with the nice post on it. All that aside, uh does 'enhance pointer precision' feature have any effect on this game? Cos I turned it off earlier today and I think it's doing better but I don't know if that's false perception.

There is a button (slider?) in the game settings where you can control the mouse speed within the game, including when you are sighted in on a target. I have slowed that function, which has helped me with targeting.

Mine is set to minimum. Has been for ages. On scopes that's just fine. But on irons I find it's still too fast. Even on deer, I find it difficult to use irons on a target 100m away with good accuracy. From what I've seen, one shouldn't need a scope to hit something 100m out. But the slightest movement in my mouse and the sight just goes to one side or the other of the bullseye. I can't get it any slower.

Hard to say the trick, because different people has different approaches to the best way to shoot them, some like line them up from behind, i don't, i always try to shoot them when flying from left to right, people get used to a way to do it and then keep repeating it, so it get better with time and practice. However, something that may help is to get used first to a shotgun of choice, me for example feel very comfortable when shooting pheasant with the Blazer F3, but have to struggle to get good aiming with the sxs shotguns, or even the single barrel shotguns, so that also may influence your success rate, try to find what sg make you fell more comfortable when shooting air targets.
